South Dakota Two Year Olds

The following pictures are of the two year olds when they were still on the mares in South Dakota. These young horses are now two year olds and ready to be started. We are offering some for sale at this time. Several of them have already been sold and started, and they are doing very well. Come and take your pick out of this herd of quality ranch horses. There are still some great ones to choose from.

These are not registered, but they do come from registered AQHA horses. Most are Driftwood breed horses. The rancher that we purchased them off of was more concerned about breeding quality ranch horses than show horses. His theory is "you can't ride the papers". We do have some two year olds available that are registered out of other stock.

Ted, Jordan, and Tiffany set off for the mid-western states in search of quality ranch bred horses to bring back to our farm.  During their trip they meet several wonderful ranch owners.

At each ranch they were able to walk through the herd and select pick the horses that would best suit Windy Hill Farm customers. They wanted to buy and bring back horses with these characteristics: Solid Minded, Good Conformation, Versatile, and Eye Catching. They sorted through over 1,000 horses to bring back only the best ones.

They bought horses that were ranch worked as well as a group of weanlings, yearlings and two year olds.

Here are some more pictures of our trip.

This South Dakota rancher "Clarence" started his herd of horses over 50 years ago. Only a hand full of outside horses have entered his closed herd during this time. The others are all offspring of his original herd. His goal is to have an entire roan herd. We are privileged to be able to buy a select group of weanlings from his ranch. The weanlings will be arriving at Windy Hill Farm this fall. Red Roans, Bay Roans, Buckskins, Bay and Sorrel fillies and colts will be available for sale. Come and take a look of these Dakota Closed Herd Foals.
